Transforming a parking lot into a community
Sawpit Senior Apartments in Port Chester, New York, a modular housing project designed for seniors aged 62 and older. Partnering with Lazz Development, we transformed an underutilized parking lot into a modern, four-story community featuring 34 affordable rental units, constructed using 48 modules and spanning 33,596 square feet.
Affordable Senior Living, Delivered Fast
Westchester County Executive George Latimer recently cut the ribbon on this development, which addresses the pressing need for affordable senior housing. “This project shows how collaboration with developers and government can meet critical housing needs for seniors facing rising costs,” Latimer said. Built at Signature’s modular manufacturing plant in Moosic, Pennsylvania, the 48 modules were assembled on-site, cutting construction time significantly while ensuring top quality.
The Sawpit Senior Apartments include 31 one-bedroom units (708 sq ft) and three two-bedroom units (853 sq ft), each with a balcony and fully equipped kitchen. Six units are mobility-accessible, and two are designed for sensory/hearing impairments. Amenities like a community room, fitness center, patio, deck, and parking enhance resident life, while its location near downtown Port Chester offers easy access to shopping, dining, and the Metro-North station.
Modular Excellence in Action
Using modular construction, we completed this 33,596-square-foot building efficiently, reducing waste and costs. “We turned a parking lot into a state-of-the-art senior community,” said Lou Larizza of Lazz Development. Lazz Development was able to start housing seniors less than 6 months after the modules were delivered to the site.
