April 2023 Home of the Month

Location: Nantucket, MA
Basic Specs: Two-story modular home, 1,957 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, and 2.5 baths

In honor of Nantucket’s Annual Daffodil Festival this upcoming weekend, our April Home of the Month celebrates a single-family home from our development on the island. The home is a part of an extensive collaboration between Signature Building Systems and Richmond Great Point Development LLC, crafted to honor the historic architecture of Nantucket while relieving the critical housing shortage affecting the island.

The finished product is a stunning 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom custom modular home that blends seamlessly into the natural beauty of Nantucket Island. The exterior of the home is clad in classic cedar shake siding, which adds a touch of warmth and texture to the design. The home features an expansive open floor plan that flows harmoniously from room to room, with a great room that includes a gas fireplace and an adjacent sunroom.

The kitchen has white shaker cabinets, stainless steel LG appliances, and a center island with two pendant lights. The sunroom, which could flex as a dining nook, boasts coffered ceilings that were finished in our Moosic plant.

One of the standout features of this home is the white oak flooring that runs throughout. The hardwood floors add character to the space with a light, neutral color that complements a wide range of decor styles.

In addition to the white oak flooring, this home has other beautiful finishes that ensure it feels modern. The tiled bathrooms are elegant and bright, with clean lines and a contemporary feel. An abundance of natural light bathes each room via double-hung windows, while the fireplace is outfitted in shiplap. And the central air conditioning ensures that the new construction home is always comfortable on an island filled with historic homes.

The full basement (featuring exterior access, 10' ceilings, multiple egress windows, and rough plumbing for a full bath, kitchen, and a second washer/dryer hook-up) provides future living space, while the spacious yard and finished deck are perfect for outdoor entertaining.

The built environment of Nantucket Island is designated a National Historic Landmark, which means that it is protected by law from alterations that would damage its historic integrity. This designation reflects the importance of preserving the unique style and cultural history of the island. Cultural events such as the Nantucket Daffodil Festival are an important part of the island's heritage and a reflection of its unique character. The festival is a celebration of spring and a symbol of hope and renewal, and it brings together residents and visitors alike in a spirit of community. While the built environment and cultural events are distinct, they are both integral to the character of Nantucket Island and contribute to its rich cultural heritage.

This home, as a part of the larger planned development, is a great example of how modular construction can be used to create high-quality, affordable housing that meets the unique needs of a particular community. With its open floor plan, beautiful finishes, and durable white oak flooring, this home is sure to be a beloved residence for years to come.
