They certainly get your attention on the highway.  Modular homes loaded on the back of semis can be quite the head-turner.  But, did you know there’s a company making thousands of those homes right here in our own backyard?

Bright and early Signature Building Systems is pumping out Pennsylvania products that are anything but cookie cutter.  President of Signature Building Systems, Craig Landri, tells us, “we have people come in with plans on a napkin. We’ve had people come in with plans from an architect. And we do it all.”

The VP of the company, Jay Bradley, says, “what we do now is complete customization”.

Within this 80,000 square foot facility in Moosic, Lackawanna County, they’re making modular homes that are shipped all over the northeast, from Maine to West Virginia.

Landri says, “Everything goes down the line in 5 or 6 days on average. So you’re building a house in less than a week.

And, that tight timeline is kept by a production line of more than 150 local employees.  Over 25 years, they have built nearly 6,000 of these Keystone creations, literally from the ground up.

This project is an apartment complex going to New Jersey.  More than 120 modular boxes will eventually complete that structure on the site.  But, before that happens, the walls are framed and secured and the roof is brought over by a crane and delicately placed on the structure.

Mike Smithonic, who has been working for the company for 12 years and is their group leader in the trim department says, “oh, this is awesome.  I’ve pretty much been in building for 35 years now, so this is kinda my neck of the woods.  It’s what I know and what I do and it’s an accomplishment”.

He says he has a lot of pride in the product. And that goes a long way towards making these Keystone creations move-in ready, hoping a family can someday have that same pride in their new home.
